As I transition from my old iMac to a new machine, I was wondering: "If I erase it and don't go quite as high with the system (currently 10.11.6), would it be a bit faster?"

If so, I could use the old machine for the grandkids...load it up with games, drawing programs, kids music, et cetera. Does that sound logical? Anyone done this before? Got any ideas?

Why don't you d/l an example or two of what you've got in mind for the kids and try the iMac out - better yet, have them try it out - to see if if it's really too slow for them as it stands?

I know iMacs are tough, but upgrading it to a SSD would be far more of an improvement than downgrading the OS would be.

More: Do the kids actually need your iMac, or, as so many (even little) kids do today, do they travel with their iPads?
