I got paralles a year ago. Any one use it? or know of it?

It comes up in Etrecheck as 100 unassigned apps. all these window apps. also it's 80GB.

If not on or logging is starts ups does it matter? It's on my Mac HD, can it be on an external or does it even matter thanks!

Yes, I've used Parallels for many years now.

One convenience that Parallels offers is to make Windows apps appear native on the Mac GUI. Those 100 "apps" are just tiny little stubs that, when double-clicked, launch Parallels and the corresponding Windows app. They take up very little space and there is (or used to be) an option to turn down the level of integration and remove them.

In practice, they are just like Mac aliases and will consume no resources other than a negligible amount of disk space. Once Parallels is launched and running, then yes, it will use system resources to run Windows.

Thanks Dave, well in short, you don't believe that Parallels slows down the imac much?

Parallels will definitely have an impact on your system performance, when you are running Windows apps. But, even when you are not running Windows apps, Parallels does occupy some memory which could potentially cause the system to page to swap files on the drive, which will negatively impact performance. My advice would be to only launch Parallels when you will be running a Windows application and quitting Parallels when you are not running a Windows application.

If it is not running there is no way Parallels can slow down the system
