Test Edit Misbehaving

Got Yosie. My iMac is five years old. Cursor ad keyboard are Bluetooth
I usually use Text Edit to write documents. Too cheap to pay for something better.
Now TE or something MISBEHAVES. I'll be writing in my current TE document and then the cursor become impotent. Can't highlight, back space ... or anything.
So I close TE and bring up the document again ... and the cursor behaves for a while. Then ... same old.
Duplicating the document does no good. So I cut and pasted eight sections of the document into a new TE document. Also does no good.
Something that maybe relevant. Never had this problem with an ALL PROSE TE document. The current TE document has about five TABLES (rows and columns) created in TE under its "Format" and then its "Tables".
Suggestions anybody? Thanks.

Are the batteries low in either the mouse or keyboard? Does this impotent behavior happen in other applications or only Text Edit?
On a Mac since 1984. Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Thanks. The batteries are fine. The problem affects just Text Edit. I duplicated the problematic TE document before -- to no avail. Yesterday I opened a blank TE document and copied the text in parts to the new TE document. The new TE document has so far not misbehaved.

If you run into trouble again, try logging in to a test user account to see if it follows you.

Thanks. If it misbehaves again, I'll try that.
