I already sent this to Micromat but, if MMT3 reads it, maybe he'll respond.

I downloaded and installed TTP 7.0.1 today. I launched it and tried the Memory Test, which proceeded for awhile until I cancelled it. Later, I decided to run it again because I had more time. Under Test Selection, all the tests could be selected except Memory Test, which was unresponsive. I quit TTP and tried again with the same result. I also reinstalled TTP 7 with no difference.

EDIT: I tried this in a test account with the same result.
ANOTHER EDIT: I tried it again this morning and was able to select Memory Test. Perhaps the fact that I shut down last night and restarted this morning had something to do with it. I'll have more time to test this later after my morning run (I'll shut down and restart for that).

I did some experimentation:

1. Launched TTP, selected Memory Test, and ran it successfully (no problems found).
2. Quit TTP and relaunched it.
3. Was unable to select Memory Test (nothing happened when I tried). I could select the other tests.
4. Restarted, launched TTP and was able to select Memory Test.

I realize this does not help you solve your problem, but I also have TechTool Pro Version 7.0.1 (492-f73046a) running under OS X 10.8.4 on a quad core Mac mini with 16 GB of RAM. After seeing your post I ran some tests to see if I could duplicate your results, and I cannot.
  1. I ran the SPD Data Test - No Problem
  2. I ran the memory test (it actually tested 10.97 GB out of 16 GB of Ram. The 10.97 GB were the free RAM at the time of the test.)
  3. I then ran the Smart Test, just to clean TTP's palate
  4. After running the Smart Test, I reran the Memory Test without any problems.
  5. I quit TTP 7.0.1
  6. Relaunched TTP 7.0.1 and ran the Memory Test, again without any difficulty.
  7. Ran the volume test on a firewire drive
  8. Once again ran the memory test with no difficulty

If you have not done so already, see if you can capture the TTP log file and send it along with a System Info report to help@micromat.com

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Thank you, Joe. I followed your suggestions about sending the logs, etc. to Micromat. TTP actually tested 3.94 GB out of 5 GB, similar to your circumstance. I tried to duplicate your procedure (at least partially) by starting the Memory Test. I stopped it, ran SMART and was able to re-select Memory Test. After quitting TTP and relaunching it, I was unable to select Memory Test.

That is strange!

On my system neither TTP 6 or 7 can successfully install the preference pane but other apps can. Neither Micromat nor anyone else has been able to replicate the problem and the logs report a "weird" error. Yes the logs actually say "weird error". However, since Micromat's Checkmate performs even more more and arguably deeper testing, I haven't pursued the issue further.

Strange indeed. I had no problem installing the TTP preference pane in either 6 or 7. Micromat contacted me and asked for some additional information, which I sent. I'll post back when I hear from them.

Update from Micromat:

Thanks for your reply. It looks like we've been able to reproduce this issue in our lab. We'll work to resolve it and send you a pre-release version of TechTool Pro 7.0.2 when it has been resolved.

jchuzi,

It is precisely when a major new release of TechTool Pro comes out that I am busy in our own forums, and am less likely to visit my favorite other spot. I am pleased that your cooperation has made it possible to reproduce the problem you had with the new 64 bit memory test.

In other TechTool Pro 7.0.2 news, the authenticaton problem with Verizon and our email alerts has been solved, and we have learned that Yahoo mail requires port 25 (very counter-intuitive) for our email alerts.
