Excel Supered Page Numbering

I've received a spreadsheet that has page numbering supered in the centre of each page - about 3 cells high, in grey, that say: "Page 1", "Page 2", et cetera. They're a pain to look through.
The sender does not know how they got there and therefore does not know how to remove them, although they would like to as much as I. I've checked Excel Help and can't find the right topic.
Anybody got a solution? Thanks.

It may be helpful if you could tell us in which version of Excel that spreadsheet was created.

A little googling suggests that you may be viewing the document in Page Break Preview mode. If so, you should be able to solve the issue by going to the View menu and choosing Normal. See for example Excel Page Break Preview and Fit to Page.

I just tried that with an Office X Excel spreadsheet, and "Page n" does appear, two cells high, in the center of each page, but I also got blue dotted lines, indicating page sides and breaks, that ryck did not mention.

Should have thought of that myself. but I also got blue dotted lines, indicating page sides and breaks, that ryck did not mention. Same here...although I didn't think anything about the page break lines. They will appear if you do a print preview, and then not go away, so perhaps that's what helped keep me off track. i.e. I didn't think the page break lines were anything abnormal and so got fixed on the supered page numbering. ryck

Funny... I've been in "Page Break Preview" mode on several occasions, and my attention has always been so totally drawn to the prominent, blue page break lines that I've never noticed the insignificant, by comparison, page numbers.
