Since I upgraded to 10.6.4 Excel takes no less than 10 seconds to quit as opposed to its quitting the same databases instantaneously in 10.5.7.

Anybody?

(Repeating... I think I need to trash my upgraded Leopard volume and do a new clean install of SL.)

I'm using Office 2008, in case you have a different version. While I don't normally use Excel, I launched it and quit to see if I can confirm your issue. Excel quit instantly. Interestingly, Entourage takes at least 10 seconds to quit. I don't remember if it did that in 10.5, however. I don't have 10.5 anymore so I can't test it.

I'm using Office 2004.

I don't use the database function of Excel. However, in case it's helpful info, my Excel boots to a blank spreadsheet in about 9 seconds. It quits from a full spreadsheet instantly.

I have the same issue, using Office 2008, 10.6.4. It looks like it could be some script cleaning things up because, during that "quit period", all the Excel menu bar items *except* for the script menu disappear. Cleaning up what I don't know. It is a bit annoying.

Thanks for confirming that I'm not alone.

I'm also running Office 2008 in OS X 10.6.4, I've installed the update MS said I needed, and I even reinstalled Excel...all with no joy.

In my case, though, the entire menu bar remains intact while Excel does something very processor intensive before it quits.

It's more than just "a bit" annoying!

Edit: And it's not like I'm quitting huge files; one is 25Kb and the other is 145Kb.

Update: I just reverted to Office X in conjunction with OpenXMLConverter117, and Excel now quits instantly. (It also takes less time to launch.)

Edit: I got a coupl'a "error" messages from OXMLC and was getting frustrated, but when I took a look I discovered that each message was accompanied by a functional, i.e. openable, file.

Edit 2: For some reason, scrolling is now faster.
