MS Office 2004 font issue

I am running Office 2004 (latest) on a 2.3 DP GHz G5, OS 10.5.8. Yesterday, I was trying to answer a question on how to change the System font size in the top finder menu. Found a reference to TinkerTool. Opened Tinker Tool and changed system font from 13 pt to 18 pt. Logged out, logged in. System font in the top menu did not change. Then opened Entourage and found that the fonts (Tahoma and Verdana, defaults) looked strange. It was like in a scanned document, somewhat fuzzy. All fonts are affected in Office (Entourage, PowerPoint, Word, Excel). The bold looked the same, but the regular did not. Also, a couple of documents on the desktop created by Word 2008 were blank (icons not rendered properly). Moves below that I made did not help to restore font appearance (the Word 2008 after Combo update acquired normal icons):
- Reverted back to defaults in TinkerTool + log out-log in
- Reverted to pre-TinkerTool stage + log out-log in
- Repaired permissions and cleaned caches with Onyx + restart
- Checked fonts and resolved duplicates with FontBook
- Removed Microsoft folder from /library/preferences
- Reapplied 10.5.8 combo update (twice)
Should I reinstall Office? Should I trash some more preferences, like display, finder, etc?
Thanks!
P.S. Another weird thing happening is the Dock icon for Activity Monitor. I always kept it to show CPU usage. Now, it disappears. Other shows are OK (Activity, application).
No wonder messing with system font was removed in TinkerTool System. Looks like it is too dangerous.

Before you go to an MS re-install, I would recommend that you clear all font caches.

This has been done with Onyx. I ran the automation with everything checked. Did not work...

Problem solved. Started up from Firewire backup (Iomega 160 GB). Font display is OK. Restarted from the main disk, same thing - fuzzy fonts in Word. Started moving preference files from backup to main HD with logout-login after batch move. User preferences did not do anything. Then moved AppSupport, same. Then started replacing items from the main Library. What did work was replacing preferences folder in the main library, logout-login. Everything back to normal. I should have thought about it first because TinkerTool was trying to change system font, most likely messing with some system plist.
Backup, guys!!!
