sending to addressbook group

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8

I have compiled a group in AddressBook and want to send an email to the group, but I don't want each recipient to see the names and email addresses of the others in the group. How do I do this?

I assume you are using Apple's Mail for e-mail. I don't use that myself, but I can tell you one way that I think will work. Maybe someone else knows a more sophisticated method using Mail. (See! ....next post!)

As you probably know, the way to hide recipients from one another is by using "Bcc", blind carbon copy. So, to use that regularly with the same group of addresses, leave one out of the Group. Send your message To the address you left out of the Group, and "Bcc" the Group.

Now, if somebody knows that this will not work, please chime in. I'll get to learn something too.

Assuming you are using Apple's Mail, go to preferences, then to composing. Under addressing, make sure to UNCHECK the box next to "When sending to a group, show all member addresses". When you address the message, address it to the group name, not the individuals. If you want to add individuals to the email, use the bcc field.

you can also send the email to yourself, and select to view the BCC (blind carbon copy) field, and place the group in the BCC field. Recipients never see who is in BCC.

Thanks to both for the answers. ...JER you were right on. I have now sent a message to a test group and it worked great. I may be the last one on the planet to figure this out. So???? Again, thanks.
