OPERA Browser

So . . . I am giving this browser a try.

From the dropdown menu, there is an option to open a new window in Private Mode. However, there is no way that I can see in the browser preferences to set the browser to open in private mode BY DEFAULT (like in SAFARI).

A Google search has produced no answer for Mac computers.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this to happen upon opening OPERA? Is there some TERMINAL command I can do? Keyboard SHORTCUT?

Many thanks,

Once upon a time I too tried Opera (most recently in Feb 2018, version 50), as well as iCab (version 5 in Dec 2015), based on claims of stripped-down, fast-running function. I didn't find that they lived up to expectations. After test runs I found them wanting on a number of fronts (as you have discovered with Opera).

I always wind up back with Firefox, now Firefox Quantum 61.0.1, which is faster and more secure in many ways when compared with Safari and Chrome; it also has many more bells and whistles.

Last time I used Firefox was with Windows prior to my first Mac G5 purchase in 2006.

Maybe now I should give it a spin for my MacBookPro with "High Sierra."

UPDATE: Tried FIREFOX.

Meh. Nothing Special. Two problems from the get-go:

1. There is the option to IMPORT Bookmarks from .html files. However, when I try to do so with my OPERA bookmarks, FIREFOX freezes/stops responding . . . so I have to Force Quit from Finder.

2. No Home Page option for "Top Sites/Speed Dial" like with Opera and Safari . . . other than what Firefox determines as most often visited.

Not an impressive start with little else to offer to me as far as I can tell.

If you haven't read through Mozilla's promotional page on Firefox Quantum, I'd recommend doing so. In addition to speed enhancements, privacy and security protection and tracking protection are major advancements over most other browsers (including Safari and Opera).

Fair enough.

However, having a TOP SITES page that I can customize is important to me as well as easily being able to import BOOKMARKS.

OPERA does have the "Private Window" and "VPN" options . . . so I feel comfortable there. Many of the other bells and whistles in FIREFOX I would not use anyway.

Just wish I could get "Private Window" to open BY DEFAULT in Opera. frown

------------------------------------------------

OPERA provides a 3-key shortcut (Command+Shift+N) to open a new Private Window. I was able to modify this into a 2-key shortcut with the two keys right next to each other (Shift+Up Arrow). Not perfect, but less cumbersome when I want a new window to pop up. grin
