Recommend a good wireless net extender?

My refurbished Cisco RE1000 still shows up on my network, but now it doesn't work like it used to where it was working with my Intel print server. The print server won't show up and doesn't get a signal, but does work when I run an ethernet cable directly from the router to the print server. I need the ancient print server because the printer I have only speaks localtalk.
Note: Small is good.

I have used Apple's Airport Express in several locations and they are all working well. I am even using one to connect the security system video camera to the internet via my network.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Let me make you an offer you can refuse. I had a Netgear router and range extender that I was/am selling on Craigslist. I have sold the router, but not the extender. Check it out here and if you are interested and will pay for shipping, you can have it for free. Respond through the Craigslist e-mail system, remind me of my offer here and we can correspond. P.S.--the extender is fine. When I switched to AT&T's U-verse gateway, this extender was incompatible, but I actually did not need the extension any longer.

Interesting article here. I read this about a month ago when I was troubleshooting my wireless. I bought a new Netgear router but not an extender. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-extender/There's something important you should know about wireless range extenders before you buy one: they're not very good. If there are dead zones in your house where Wi-Fi signals can't reach, there are better ways to improve your coverage than Wi-Fi extenders. But if you're set on one, the Netgear WN2500RP is the least bad. Really: you probably shouldn’t buy an extender. The first thing you should try is moving your router to a central location in your house, if possible. Better placement may solve all your problems. If that doesn’t work and the router you have is a few years old, I recommend getting a new one like the Netgear R6250, our top pick. I’ll explain why and lay out all the alternatives to a wireless extender that I think will work better for you. After the explanation, if you still decide you need a Wi-Fi Extender, I’ll tell you why the Netgear WN2500RP is the one I’d get.

The router I bought is a beast and I am in a stdio apt. I believe this can be solved with the right extender, mine is old and refurbished to begin with.
