I'm looking to get an adapter for my HDTV so I can watch stuff from the internet on my TV. I found a 10 foot one on eBay very cheap. Has lots of good reviews. I am just wondering if a shorter cable (maybe 6ft) would be better because there is less cable to do through, or would that not make a difference?

Thanks.

Rita

HDMI is digital, meaning the signal doesn't degrade the way it does with an analog signal. Either the cable works or it doesn't.

Out of curiosity, isn't the adapter for the Thunderbolt port separate from the HDMI cable? Are you finding one with the cable permanently attached to the adapter?

From what I have seen, Apple is the provider of the adapter and the HDMI cable can come from anyone. This might give you more flexibility in future situations.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Hi Ira:

It is an all-in-one cable. The one Apple provides is a third party cable anyway and expensive. This is the one I am looking at:

Thunderbolt to HDMI cable

I have an email into them because it looks like it only carries video and not audio which isn't good since I want to hook it up to my HDTV for broastcast TV programs. I may have to go the Apple route. mad

If that isn't the right one, maybe this is what I should get since I do have an HDMI adapter cable at home.

It seems there are audio issues, dependent on the make and model of your Apple hardware. See this discussion for information. Also, see this product for more information on make and models, etc. that get you what you want.

Also, in my opinion, the product link I provided is, quite coincidentally, to OWC, whom I think provides quality support and service.

I think this is the same one I showed you above. Could you confirm that? Also, the one you linked me to is a better price after shipping even though the Amazon one was cheaper before shipping. So I think I will get the one you showed me. Just wanted to make sure it's the same one. I have a Macbook pro early 2012.

Never mind. I went to the site again and looked at the compatibility chart and answered my own question. I think this will work.

Thanks again.
