What a great tip...thanks. I have always used Safari but sometimes have run across a site that works better with FireFox (although much less often now) and it's always been a pain.

Interestingly my first time testing "Open Page With" it included Real Player and something I don't even have on my drive (at least Spotlight can't find it) - Opera.

I suspect that you may have had Opera on your Mac at some time in the past, however briefly, and perhaps only as a .dmg, and not actually installed. In my case that Develop menu lists a variety of apps that can 'do something' with web pages or certain content, including (like you) media players, screen capture utilities and even a Terminal alternative. These included previous versions, albeit not all I know I had. Some entries include a path, others don't. In other words, I'm not sure exactly which database is being mined here to populate that menu.

I just opened this page in Opera, then "About Opera", which generated this information under a heading about paths:

It seems strange that, although there's lots of stuff with "Opera" in the name (including folders) Spotlight doesn't see any of it.

EDIT: I also just opened CleanApp and it doesn't see any Opera either.

EDIT AGAIN: If this is starting to look like a different thread, Moderator, feel free to move it. Maybe "Phantom Opera" would be a good title.

Opera used to get installed with some old Adobe Creative Suite Apps if I recall correctly, so maybe it's hiding in there.

Of course if Opera launches, you could just Command-Click it's Dock icon and find out exactly where it is.

If it's somehow in the Library or similar System Files type place, that would explain why Spotlight wouldn't find it... since those locations are not included in Spotlight results by default.

I believe it comes from the LaunchServices database which can have outdated entries in it.

The LaunchServices database can be rebuilt with the Terminal or easier with an app like Onyx. Note this also affects the Open With menu in the Finder as well.

You're right. I just did a launch from "Recently used..." and the Get Info shows the location as:

/Applications/Adobe Bridge CS3/Bridge CS3.app/Contents/MacOS

...and that would be another location that doesn't come up in spotlight... inside application bundles.

Oh, and if you don't want to to Get Info for a files path, you could go to the View Menu and select Show Path Bar and it'll show you whatever's selected's path in your finder windows.

I must not quite understand where/how to look. In my Safari "View" the only "Show" options I have are Tab Bar, Status Bar, Reader and Reading List. I've also opened both Opera and FireFox but didn't see a "Show Path Bar" in either using "View".

Kevin was referring to the Finder's View menu rather than Safari's.
