Are you sure they're cookies, or are they caches?

If you delete them, do they reappear?
Are you using an app that syncs cookies between browsers, in which case they may be coming from a different browser than Safari?

Good thought Artie, but right now icloud does not have Safari checked, I'm syncing through Firefox only. And this issue, I've seen for awhile, baffling.

Whose cookies are they, or, more specifically, are they "trackers" that something like Ghostery may block? It wouldn't solve your problem, but would, at least, mitigate it.

Did not understand that Art, but I did want to say. The cookies were cleared. The list was empty, and then I did one search on shoes to test this, and clicked on Zappos.
There were then five cookies: yeildmanager.net, yimg.com, yahoo, toysrus.com, scorecardresearch.com
What is that all about??
And this is all while I have don't allow cookies checked and in private brown sing!

Got me beat, kevs. Maybe your plist is corrupt and the pref isn't being recognized, and maybe it's just a phony pref that Apple's given us to make us feel good and keep the bad guys happy at the same time. I haven't trusted Apple's intentions for a while. Edit: And maybe you've stumbled on a bug in whichever version of Safari you're running.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I know there are websites that alert you if they can't place their cookies.
Have you ever run into that situation with the pref checked?
(Maybe somebody can post the URLs of a coupl'a such websites so you can check.)

Have you ever navigated to a website that popped up an alert along the lines of "You seem to have cookies disabled; please enable us to install cookies on your computer so this browsing session can continue"?
Edit: Alternatively, there are websites that simply tell you that they must place cookies in order for your browsing session to continue.
Have you ever run into a problem with a site like that?
