Web Page Loading Issues

Hi:

Recently a problem has begun with using the SAFARI browser on a 2013 desktop computer (purchased new in May directly from Apple).

There are four user accounts on the one computer. With three of these, the SAFARI webpages load fully and quickly, as usual.

However, on the FOURTH user account, the pages will only sometimes load - or load partially - and then stall. And then that lovely beach ball appears!

Any ideas as to why this would happen for one account and not for the other three . . . using the same computer and internet and wireless Time Capsule connections? (All has been fine with all accounts for three months - until this morning with the one account.)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

P.S. Have already trashed (and emptied) the SAFARI "plists" from that account's Library, the other three users and the System library folders. Naturally, the "plist" has been recreated in all four accounts when SAFARI is launched, as expected.

Does the malfunctioning account have Safari extensions or plugins installed, such as ad blockers or addons like Ghostery?

Yes, there was only one extension not being used, so I turned it off in the SAFARI preferences. Restarted the computer and SAFARI.

Problem not fixed . . . but I sent the extension from the SAFARI folder to the trash anyway and deleted it.

However, the problem still persists. frown

Also . . . are not all four accounts accessing the same SAFARI app and its folders as needed? If the problem were caused by the "extension" in the SAFARI folder, wouldn't all four accounts have had the same issue when using that browser? Just wondering . . . .

Try clearing the Safari cache and then re-launch Safari. (Safari menu > Empty Cache.)

Same Safari app, but each account has its own ~/Library/Safari folder and ~/Library/Prefs/com.apple.Safari.plist.

There's no Empty Cache command in Safari 6's Safari menu. The Develop menu, if enabled, has an Empty Caches item; enabling the Develop menu is accomplished by clicking the checkbox at the bottom of the Advanced tab in Safari's Preferences.

Thanks for that info. Is it possible to manually clear Safari caches in Safari 6? In my setup, that can be done by deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari. What are the options for resetting Safari 6 (they might be different from Safari 5.1.9, my version)? Something in there might be useful.

(Safari 5.9) Clearing the file you mentioned does not truly clear cache unless you do it after quitting Safari.

One of my gripes with Cookie is that it purports to clear cache by clearing that file while Safari is running. (Safari history works the same way.)

I have used the Develop menu as suggested above as well as deleting/trashing/emptying the plists in the User's library folder AND the "com.apple.Safari file."

The problem seems to have been resolved. I will report back if the issue rears its ugly head again in the next few days. mad

Thanks everyone for all the help.
