Says file is locked

I'm trying to open an excel file from living room via file sharing and it says the file is locked. I'm sure it's because my intern is here. But she is not even using my network or using that file. What's the deal?

If you open an Excel file, and then don't close it properly (for example, if you open it across a network and then disconnect the network volume), that can happen. Usually, rebooting the computer where the file lives will fix the problem.

PS, the intern though, if save, close, quit, and disconnects from network, that should be ok?

Yes, that should not cause the problem you had.
