Hello everyone, great to finally find the old MacFixit crew again:

I have a two iMacs connected to a wireless router & a cable modem by internal airport cards.
One is an Intel 2.16GHz 3GB RAM running 10.6.8
The other is an Intel 3.2 GHz 8GB RAM running 10.6.8

Both run Safari 5.0.5
Both show full signals in the Airport icon in the menu bar
Both use WEP2 personal security.

The older (lower spec), machine is much faster when loading web pages, the newer machine is connecting but loads pages very slowly (eg it has just taken it 4 minutes to load the YouTube homepage).
I have repaired permissions.
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

boot the imac into firewire target mode
firewire cable it to the mini, and boot the mini off the imac's hdd
test wireless

if the speed is slow, the mini has a hardware problem. if speed is good you have an os or other software problem

I'm guessing that when you say "mini" you mean "slower of the OP's two iMacs."

yes. insufficient caffeine.

Sounds like a sensible idea. Went to try it but the firewire ports are different!
Am waiting for a new cable.
