My first inclination was to post this in "Networking," because it's e-mail related, but, since it's not even really computer related, I guess it belongs here. (Your judgement, Mods.)
Long header's from an e-mail I received on 11-28-09 that I had already received on 11-23-08 (The omissions are both obvious and immaterial to my question.):
From: Subject: Date: November 23, 2008 7:31:44 PM EST To: artie505@ Received: from sff1 ([70.17.24.238]) by vms173019.mailsrvcs.net (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-7.04 (built Sep 26 2008; 32bit)) with ESMTPA id <0KTU00CBAN3JCCA5@vms173019.mailsrvcs.net> for artie505@; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 20:33:24 -0600 (CST) Message-Id: <D734D1304DEA463F937074A346CA0DB4@sff1> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mimeole: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.5579 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5512 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0001_01C94DA2.1E943580" X-Priority: 3 X-Msmail-Priority: Normal
Is there anything in there that gives anybody a clue as to where this e-mail has been lurking for the past year and why it came around a second time?
This is a brand new one on me; has anybody else experienced it or similar?

It might be possible to tell a bit more if you posted the "Raw Source" instead of just Long Headers. (In Mail: View > Message > Raw Source)
Lacking that I can only speculate, but I have seen something similar happen when a server was reloaded after a crash and in the process lost track of what had and had not been forwarded/retrieved and therefore resent everything.
By the way, I would have put this in Networking myself.

I was unaware of "Raw Source;" thanks for directing me to it:

Does that offer any clues?
Thanks.

Now that is bizarre. This part:
Received: from sff1 ([70.17.24.238]) by vms173019.mailsrvcs.net (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-7.04 (built Sep 26 2008; 32bit)) with ESMTPA id <0KTU00CBAN3JCCA5@vms173019.mailsrvcs.net> for artie505@; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 20:33:24 -0600 (CST) Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2008 19:31:44 -0500
suggests that the email has been sitting for a year on vms173019.mailsrvcs.net or that the Date: header is incorrect. Did this email come from someone you know?

I wonder if the sender (accidentally) sent it twice last year... and that server held back the second copy. Still strange... but perhaps not as strange. >>> Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2008Sunday is the right *day* there, so... it doesn't seem to be a mere matter of the 9 getting decremented somehow.

Responding to tacit and Hal in the same post: > Did this email come from someone you know?> I wonder if the sender (accidentally) sent it twice last year... [....]The e-mail came from my sister, and the year disparity in the dates is correct; the subject matter is so specific that there's absolutely zero chance of my memory of having received it last year being off-base. I asked her about the possibility of her having sent it twice, and, understandably, she can't give me a guaranteed answer. 'Tis truly a puzzlement.
