No rush on this....but, when I open Mail, the Inbox window is always blank. If I click on any other window (e.g. Send) and go back to Inbox, the email list will be there.
This isn't a big issue - just a pain in the patoot - but it makes me a bit nervous when things don't work quite the way they should.

Is your account POP or IMAP?
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

It's POP.
Although this issue may have been resolved with 10.6.2 that I installed tonight. Mail opened and loaded the Inbox correctly right after the install and I've restarted 3 more times and each time it loaded correctly.

FWIW I've ran into this issue at least 1/2 dozen times on various machines. As far as I can determine, it's caused by the user changing the naming on their account such that it changes the default pathname the mailbox uses for a foldername on the hard drive. The migration process (to 10.6) doesn't appreciate this, and you get a totally empty list for all the mailbox-associated folders in mail. The only fix I personally found was to copy the folders on the hard drive, delete the account, recreate the account, and import in the inbox and sent items etc. There's probably a faster way involving changing the name of the mail account back to whatever it was before they changed it but just recreating the account is simpler than playing that guessing game.
I'll try the combo updater next time I run across one of them and see if your solution is consistent for this problem. Will certainly be a time saver.

The user name change wouldn't be applicable to me. The 6.2 update seems to be a solution as the Mail program continues to work as it should.
FYI, when I did the update I downloaded the package from the Apple site. It was the Combo version.

I mean the username of the email account. ie the email address being received to. Mail makes a folder for the inbox etc based on that name and doesn't necessarily rename it as it should if you change the email address on the receive.

I mean the username of the email account. Still not applicable to me...my email name/address hasn't changed for years. ryck
