LC630 Time Machine

New user here. Responses appreciated!

Trying to get a printer working. I thought I was on to something when I found a ADB to USB cable from Griffin but states the OS needs to be 9.1 or higher. 8.1 is the highest supported, currently at 7.5.1. I also looked at the mac disk that came with my HP printer and it requires >10.3. Seems like a dead end....

Problem: My Mom did a bunch of geneology on this machine back in the late 90's. I want the info off of it, other then doing it long hand.... It's an old work machine so I never had a printer for it. Anyone have any solutions?

Thanks in advance,
Steelhead

Welcome to these forums, Steelhead! laugh Trying to get a working printer for the LC is probably going to be really hard if at all possible. So I'd suggest another tack. If the files you're looking for can be accessed with current software* on current Macs or Windows boxes, try getting the files off that old Mac. Since the LC630 doesn't have any networking hardware, consider pulling the hard disk and hook it up to a current Mac using a HD enclosure or a USB HD adapter w/power supply.

*) If there is no such software, see if you can get enough data on the screen to copy it via screenshots. Also, check if the software on the LC has a print-to-file option; if it does, you can do that, get the files off the LC and then see if you can print it elsewhere.

I've seen several people with ancient machines with genealogy information on them, getting the information out of those apps is impossible. All you can do is print it out or write it down off the screen.

A windows machine might work too, but (1) those would need a HFS reading utility to access Mac disks, and (2) the data files in question cannot have (critical) resource forks, because Windows will discard those.

But if the files cannot be read by existing software, all this is moot. Your only option may then be copying the data from the LC by hand or by photographing screens.

That so reminds me of the funny picture titled "how a blonde does a printscreen", showing a picture of a computer monitor, face down on the bed of a photocopier....
