online backup or drobo

Hello all new here.Well i got my first mac about 6 mounths ago and loving it.Now i need a good backup solution and need any advice about weather to go online backup or drobo.I have been looking at carbonite online backup and the drobo.Or any external hard drive.It seems there are plus and negitives about both.

I'd suggest you're best off going with both an onsite backup and online backup. Local onsite backup such as Drobo is great for quick backup/recovery, but doesn't help you in the event of theft or fire. Online backups are very affordable nowadays; you might consider something like Mozy or DropBox (free for a couple of GB, very reasonable pricing as you scale up).

if you only have a small amount of data you may be able to use mobileme. The big things it does are email and addressbook.

Too bad you can't set up time machine in some limited way to use the idisk...

I use Apple's Backup utility for that. It is definitely no Time Machine, but it works well with iDisk. That is how I store the "third level" backup of my financial records.
