I have both PS Elements 6 & 10 on my Mac (Powerbook mid 2009 running Yosemite).

I can open jpg's from iPhoto my dragging them on to the Element 6 icon in the Dock, this causes the app to open, but when I try to do this with PS elements 10 it doesn't respond and I have to open it the long way and then find the image I want to work on.
Any suggestions of how to fix this?
Thanks

Were you ever able to open a jpg by dragging it to the Dock icon of PSE 10?

Also, do a "Get Info…" on the jpg that opened with PSE 6. Check the default "Open with…" setting. If it is PSE 6, that might explain why PSE 10 must open it the way you described.

Try changing the above setting to default to PSE 10 and see if that makes a difference.

Afterthought: why do you need both versions on the your computer?

Often when there are difficulties associating a file type with an application it is an indication the Launch Services Database has either gotten out of synch or otherwise damaged. If you select the file you want to edit and then Control+Click > Open With do both Elements 6 and 10 show up on the list of applications associated with that file type? If not that is a definite sign the Launch Services Database is out of synch.

There are several applications that can rebuild the Launch Services Database including TinkerTool System, MacPilot, OnyX and Maintenance. You might try one of those apps (the last two are free) and try rebuilding the database to see if that solves your issue. It cannot do any harm.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?
