Iphoto to Aperture problem.

I was transferring my iPhoto library to Aperture however it was taking hours and it eventually transferred however they have also transferred into the applications folder _ thousands of them . where did I go wrong ? and can I delete them ?

aperture maintains a carefully sorted collection of your pictures, it doesn't just toss them into a folder together, and certainly not in /Applications by default.

Can you access them properly from Aperture? Where does it take you if you select a picture and ask it to show you where the actual photo is stored? Maybe good idea to run disk utility to verify your hard drive's structure.
