Help! Need to recover photo deleted from my iPad

I deleted it a few months ago and was not backed up to the cloud. I see software that claims to be able to do that but I don't want to install adware or other nonsense they may contain!

I've closed your earlier Help! Must recover photo deleted from ipad around January thread. Please don't post multiple threads on the same subject.

I don't know if it matters in this case but when asking for help it's always a good idea to include basic hardware and software info such as which iPad you have and which OS it's running.

Without a backup or iCloud storage of images, you are probably out of luck. If you have used your iPad since January it is highly likely the data storage location of the image has long since been overwritten, possibly multiple times and unlike magnetic storage media the SSD used in your iPad cannot be deep recovered no matter how much money you are willing to spend.

However if you have a backup of your iPad in iTunes on your Mac that would have the desired image on it, there is a possibility of recovery. While I am unaware of any app that would allow you to extract a given file or image from an iOS backup set saved on your Mac, you might be able to wipe the iPad and restore it from the iTunes backup and recover the image that way.

IMHO iCloud storage is much simpler, it saves storage space on the iOS devices and/or the Mac, makes all your images available on all your iOS and OS X devices, is backed up by Apple in multiple data centers across the US and the world. Even if you intentionally delete an image, it will remain on iCloud for several days up to a three weeks and can still be taken out of the trash during that time.

If you attach your iPad to the MBP via a lightning cable does iTunes open? If not, launch iTunes then click on the device icon on the iTunes tool bar and select the iPad. If the iPad does not appear there try a different lightning cable.

A lightning cable is NOT thunderbolt it is Apple's proprietary USB connector and your MBP does have USB. Launching iTunes can force your iPad to mount as an external device/drive.

Ok, so I went to the Apple store yesterday. It is an ipad 3 and will only connect to a MBP with a usb cable. Was able to hook it up to their demo MBP and iTunes launched and pics came up. The IOS will not work with my version of iTunes. That's that issue.

I had them make sure all the photos left on it now we're put into my cloud. The recovery software I found cannot be installed onto an iPad but must be installed onto a MacBook and they warned me of adware, malware, whatever. Sent me to Tekserve for recovery services. Tekserve is $600 if they find something you want or $0 if you decide you don't want anything they find. They agreed that the directory is gone for deleted photos but the photos could still be thete, esp. if you haven't taken a lot of others or filled up the flash memory. So I went home and downloaded something called Dr Fone. Didn't install it.

Here is what I want to do:

Make a completely recoverable copy of my hard drive (was told whatever way I restore it I will have to reinstall the system.) so I can install what may be very wonky software and be able to easily get back to where I am now.

EDIT: Just contacted place called Stellar, they are data recovery experts, 23 years. Are sending me demo and if pics show up then I purchase software to get them.

My first reply here is a month old, so I'm guessing you confused this topic with your new Help! Issues after IOS 9.3 update on iPad 3 thread.
