I have an alpine radio in my car with USB.
I put just over a thousand itunes on a flash card and most of them are MP3s and the rest are m4a. When I go to the menu and click view, arrange by name, the MP3s are separated from the m4a. Is there a way whereby they will intermingle with each other?
I'm not too optimistic about that. I havn't tried yet but will the m4a play okay? I ask now because if they won't, I will have to convert them.

In both Finder and iTunes m4as and MP3s should intermingle properly when sorted by name, even though the Finder (in Leopard at least) doesn't recognize m4as as such (it lists '--' as Kind). Hence this question: exactly where don't MP3 and m4a sort properly for you? On your Mac or on your Alpine radio? If the former, which OS version are you running? If it's the Alpine I have no clue, but I suspect you're out of luck there.

Whether m4a files play properly on the Alpine radio depends on the model. The manual's specs section should tell you which file types it can handle.

OS 10.5.8
Regarding the intermingling, about 30% of MP3s were at the top and the m4as were in the middle and the remaining MP3s were at the bottom (on my mac.)
The alpine model is 9886 and the manual states MP3s, WMAs and AACs as being compatible. After reading your reply, I removed the m4as and converted them with switch...over 400 of them. I then added them back to the flash card which I have yet to hook up to my radio. I don't anticipate any problems now.
Thanks for your reply,
