I bought a 64GB ipod touch two days ago. I put my music on it and attempted to put some pictures on it. After 8 hours it was still Syncing. So I restored my ipod so there is nothing on it. I am attempting to put one photo on the ipod and it is not done and it started 14 minutes ago... I made a folder in Pictures and put the 1 photo in it. iTunes is 9.1.1(12). How long should it take?

After 26 minutes I canceled the syncing. I then put 1 picture in iPhoto and in less than a minute it was done. So my ipod doesn't like the picture folder option and I prefer to use it.

are you sure you picked the correct folder and not say, your entire home folder?
Try experimenting with folders of pictures, where there are much fewer pictures to sync.
It shouldn't take too long to sync, though the first one is always going to take awhile.
Don't rule out directory damage on your mac. A damaged directory entry in your pictures folder could be stumping itunes as its trying to calculate space before syncing.
You can also open activity monitor in Utilities folder and click on disk activity to confirm that it's doing hard drive i/o, and also look at how much cpu itunes is consuming, for clues as to what's going on (or NOT going on) behind the scenes.

I have run into a similar problem a few times and in every case it has been a single image that has stopped the process. In one case, where I really wanted to transfer the image, opening the file in another editor such as Photoshop Elements or Graphic Converter X and then saving it has "fixed" the problem. Identifying the problem image can sometimes be a trick.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Thanks for the replies. I have 54,953 pictures in various folders in my Pictures folder, Obviously, I don't want to put all of them on my ipod but it is a pain to import them into iphoto and then put them on the ipod. I had made a folder named "for ipod" and had just the one picture in it. When I have time to fool around with it, I will try again. Is there a way to drag/drop pictures into the ipod?

There is commercial software-- Phone View--that does what you want fairly easily. If it is really just a photo or two that you want, e-mail them to yourself, retrieve them through the Mail app on your iPhone and then you will have an option to import them into the iPhone Photos.
On a Mac since 1984. Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.
