An unexpected popup appeared the other day that a system extension had been loaded that will not be supported in a future version of MacOS. confused Curious to know more I started a search and found this Apple Support article. Then Etrecheck Pro 6.2.3 (6C010) turned up four legacy kernel extensions used in the latest releases of very actively supported apps from widely used and well respected developers. The word is support for those legacy kernel extensions "is not guaranteed beyond Catalina.

It is time to get busy identifying potential problem apps and communicating with their developers. MacOS 10.16 is likely to be released within the next six or seven months.

According to one developer they are stalled on upgrading from the legacy system extensions because they are waiting for
  • Apple documentation and coding standards on the changed APIs
  • An operating system to test the revised code on

To give us a sense of what we might be looking for, could you name the 4 apps you found that would be affected.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Per joemike's linked Apple doc:

Quote:
Until the transition is complete, your Mac displays a message when a legacy system extension first loads, and again periodically while the extension remains in use. This gives you advance notice that existing software on your system loaded a system extension that will be incompatible with a future version of macOS:

So we're not looking for anything that won't find us before we find it.

Good question: The answer extracted from Etrecheck Pro is:
  • MB_MBAM_Protection.kext
    com.malwarebytes.mbam.rtprotection
    4.3 - SDK 10.11
    Malwarebytes Corporation
    4.3 - SDK 10.11
  • DymoUsbPrinterClassDriver.kext
    com.dymo.usbprinterclassdriver.kext
    Sanford, L.P.
    1.1 - SDK 10.14
  • SoftRAID.kext
    com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID
    5.8.3 - SDK 10.9
    Other World Computing
  • SATSMARTDriver.kext
    fi.dungeon.driver.SATSMARTDriver
    0.10 - SDK 10.9
    Micromat, Inc.

FWIW all effected applications are current releases as of April 3, 2020

Have you gotten pop-ups from all four of those apps as per your linked Apple doc?

EtreCheckPro tells me that I've got a couple of possible candidates for extinction, but they run constantly, and not a one of them has popped up other than as expected.

Of the four only SoftRAID has generated a popup and that was immediately after updating the driver (which I have to do after every MacOS update which is an altogether different issue) and that occurred only the one time. But it was enough to out me on the trail and run Etrecheck Pro to see what it would find. (I have more and more respect for Etrecheck and particularly the Pro version thereof.)

Thanks. Then I apparently can't rely on the Apple doc and my so far lack of pop-ups.

Phooey! I was hoping that I could.

Apparently this is happening now with osMac 10.15.4, as reported by Ric Ford at MacInTouch, citing a report in Apple Insider.

I have no idea if this will help, but there is now a supplemental 10.15.4 update that you can either download via my link or by using Software Update.

And yet, although I've got a few kexts that appear to fit the bill I haven't gotten any pop-ups as promised in joemike's linked doc.
