I installed 10.2.4 today. No problems so far.

While not a great fan of Cocktail, I still thought it interesting what Kristofer Szymanski of Cocktail had to say (extract received 27 Mar 17):

"Please note that it is always recommended to use a combo update to update macOS.

Many of the problems we are asked to solve can be traced back to a faulty system update or corrupt system files. While it may sound pretty serious there is usually a very simple way to fix it, reinstall the latest Combo update from Apple.

When Apple is testing macOS updates with its developers they are using the Combo update, which is a package that contains every single update from the day your macOS version was released. However, what they deliver to the end users is normally an incremental update which only contains the changes from say 10.12.3 to 10.12.4. Unless you have a clean install there is a chance that it will replace files it shouldn’t or, on the contrary, that it won’t replace files that have become corrupted and are now causing problems.

The best thing to do if you happen to experience these problems is to reinstall the update, but instead of using the Mac App Store which will only give you the incremental update you use the Combo update. The Combo update will replace all the core system files and give you a completely fresh and up to date macOS install that will hopefully make your problems history.

This is also how you fix your computer if an update was interrupted as the Combo update will restore all missing files and make sure they are up to date."

I saw that message from Maintain also. For better or worse, I used the incremental update from App Store.

There are reports of an inability to drag and drop out of Safari with the new companion (Safari 10.1) update. Anyone seeing that?

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Just dragged a jpeg out of Safari to my desktop. Is it that sort of drag-drop you were referencing?

I used to be a firm proponent of installing the combo updater, but two things have changed my position...
  1. Beta Testing I have gone through probably twenty or more incremental updates of MacOS 10.12 (Sierra) and a similar number of iOS 10 updates to get to 10.3 and other than the expected glitches in the beta features my systems have remained and are today rock solid and stable. No combo updater was available or needed and the incremental updates themselves have been absolutely problem free.
  2. The Recovery Drive: Should my system become unstable or for any reason I conclude a combo update would be beneficial I can simply boot from the Recovery Drive and do a full reinstall of the latest MacOS version from there. Other than that the incremental updates take less time and require less effort on my part.

I successfully dragged your avatar to my desktop if that is what you are talking about. I am having a problem with Safari Technology Preview Release 26 (Safari 10.2, WebKit 12604.1.12) however. It incorrectly or perhaps more accurately incompletely renders some websites that Safari 10.1 handles with aplomb.

affirmative.
not able to drag anything -- neither a pic, nor a link =>

Safari Version 10.1 (12603.1.30.0.34)
Sierra macOS 10.12.4 (16E195)

moreover, after a few attempts with various websites copy and paste stopped working completely : 'Safari not responsive'
Console error/message checks failed : console crashed

restart with Pram cleared
disabled extensions in Safari :
Tampermonkey
uBlock
Ghostery

and this is where me is : here, @ finetunedmac i can drag links, so far copy & paste works again

HOWEVER, still quite a few sites i can not drag any links, login to, copy-n-paste : for instance : www.spiegel.de
this is very annoying

forgot to mention, before restart, as described above, Textwrangler crashed.
Opera browser utterly useless : no copy/paste working; links 'unclickable', still, after restart

{ rm -rf / }

I dunno... Same setup as you're running, and everything you're unable to do at www.spiegel.de I'm able to do.

I suggest that you run, or, as the case may be, re-run, the macOS Sierra 10.12.4 Combo Update.

Edit: It's the tried and true first post-update troubleshooting step.

I first saw the problem reported at MacInTouch. Follow-up reports seem to indicate that there was an installation problem. The suggestion above to re-install may solve the other occurrence of the problem mentioned above.

I just noticed something in the update to Safari 10.1: The printer dialog box has changed. If you opt to Show Details and then look at the Safari popup menu, the last choice is now Printer Features. It contains all the options that were previously divided into three parts. This seems to be only in Safari, so it's not a change in printer drivers.

Thanks for pointing that out, Jon. Indeed I had not noticed that and may well benefit from such. cool
