I recently found a log that had a record of something other than ntpd checking the time every hour, but I've gone through Console from top to bottom, and I can't find it again; does anybody know what/where it is?

Can you provide any clues like an excerpt from the log where you found this mysterious task?

I'm fairly sure I'm reading that wrong. Can you double check that says what you think it says?

MOST logs have 'something other than ntpd checking' in them.

Clarification... I know that ntpd checks time, but the hourly time checks to which I'm referring did not reference it.

I remember having had two time checks allowed in Little Snitch at one time, ntpd being one, and ???, the other.

But "checking the time" for what purpose?
ntpd corrects the system when it drifts...
and everything else that needs the "right"
time just asks the system. Are you saying
this other thing also corrected the system
when it got out of sync? If not, then why?

Sorry, Hal, but I just haven't got any answers; I was in the middle of doing something else when I stumbled on that log, I promptly forgot everything about it except that it looked like it was checking the time once every hour, and now that I want to take a good look at it I can't find it again.

I was hoping somebody would know what I was talking about, but I guess I'll just have to keep looking and report back if (hopefully when) I get lucky.
