I just installed Security Update 2017-002 for 10.12.6, and my chime to desktop time increased by 30-40 seconds. (30-40 seconds of black screen before Apple appeared...multiple startups/restarts)

Reverted.

Feedback sent to Apple. (Edit: Oops!)

Anybody else have any experiences to report?

You may have tried this already, but did you re-select the Startup Disk in the Startup Disk preference pane? A long delay on a black screen before the Apple logo appears sometimes means the startup setting has been lost.

Thanks, tacit; the problem apparently was the lack of a startup disk selection, but it didn't occur to me to look (although it should have blush ).

It's not something I remember ever having happened after an update, and OS related issues have become so few and far between that I've forgotten most of "Troubleshooting 101". cool

This was a strange update: after clicking on "Update" I got no indication that anything was happening until my screen suddenly went black after about 15 seconds. crazy
