I erase free space on my HD about once a month and yesterday when I clicked erase free space this appeared in the sidebar: ETFFile1.sparseimage which I have not noticed before. Can someone explain why it appeared and it's purpose? jaybass

Previously mounted disk images may show up in the sidebar in disk utility after the images are dismounted and even thrown away. Flashupdate is the one I see all the time, each time adobe has an update and I've ran it recently, as it serves those up on disk images.

Virtual1, Thanks for your explanation. I did up-date adobe reader last week so I guess that's where it came from. jaybass

I've seen the same Flash leftover that V1 has seen...lives in /temp somewhere and, I assume, disappears after some built-in OS X cleaning procedure.

I wonder whether your file was a similar thing, though?

MrPete007's second post in Gigantic temporary file from free space erase sounds like it addresses what happened to you, but the file mentioned is EFTFile1.sparseimage as opposed to your ETFFile1.sparseimage, and since "FT" returns significantly more Google hits than "TF" I'm wondering if you made a typo in your original post?

artie, I have just checked the D/W and erase free space and you are correct, it was a typo. I did notice that after that procedure, TTP6 then told me I had less than 15% of free space but when I clicked TTP in the dock, it shows 65% of free space which is what it should be. A week ago, 15% would have been correct. Perhaps some kind of time delay. jaybass
