Daylight saving clock change

How do they do that? All the computers know that here in the UK we changed our clocks overnight. One hour back. They all knew that. They always know that. How?

Meanwhile, I had to go around telling the phones, central heating timer, radios, microwave, wristwatches, car, and everything else with a clock, that we've gone back an hour.

Not a big deal, but ?

How about the computer clocks being (internet) connected with a central time server?

Most cell phones nowadays can do it too... but the option may be off by default.

It's the same with a thermos bottle.
It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold.
How does it know? grin

I remember that there was a software update from Apple (I don't remember which OS but it might have been 10.3) that specifically addressed this clock issue. Apple released it after the days for switching from Daylight Time to Standard Time (and vice versa) were changed.

Apple and other OS manufacturers have to release an update every time our schizophrenic government changes their mind as to the daylight savings time schedule.

Unfortunately, older OSs that don't receive updates don't get them, and then you get numerous labs of older computers whose clocks fall back a week early, then you reset them all, then a week later you have to manually fall them back. fun.
