A commercial currently running on the Fox News cable channel promotes BMW's engineering prowess. They call it " Efficient Dynamics"!

ED anyone?

Ah! The latest buzzword for the 21st century. It reminds me of the fads that came and went when I was teaching. One of my colleagues referred to these things as the "buzzword du jour".

Hi Jon
Nice to see you. Should BMW owners be on Viagra?

GM tried to sell the Chevy Nova in Mexico.

I'm told that in Spanish, "no va" means "it doesn't go"

I'm sure it ran only a few times ...the commercial, that is. No mas

GM tried to sell the Buick LaCrosse in Canada. In that country, "lacrosse" is slang for masturbation. That model was renamed for the Canadian market but I'm not sure if the original hindered sales or boosted them. grin

I'd have thought most Beemer owners to be sufficiently replete with testosterone not to require an additional tune-up, unless deficient in the NO department... smirk

I've had BMWs for over 10 years, I'm on my second one. I've never understood the sniping at those who chose to buy BMW. I can only assume they're jealous or something. Once you've owned a BMW anything else is inferior, it's as simple as that. FWIW. IMO.

Back on the topic of unbelievable advertising/brand names, in the UK some years ago a womens' magazine was launched with the name Candida. They wondered why sales didn't take off. Candida is the other name for Thrush.

(I wonder how many people will "get" that.)

Sure. wink
But it is a strange slang term. So, if "soccer" is football, then, what is lacrosse?
There's a whole town named La Crosse in Wisconsin, not just a corner. Shouldn't that be Wanker's Corner?

Here's the "official" definition...
ORIGIN mid 19th cent.: from French (le jeu de) la crosse ‘(the game of) the hooked stick.’

Maybe that explains it.

Anyone who uses the Dictionary...

Several years ago, I was astonished to hear on the radio, A Mitsubishi commercial. I don't remember the exact wording, but the opening line was something like "25 years ago Mitsubishi made it's first impact on the United States". I heard it again the following day, but never again. Apparently someone reminded them who made some of the planes that attacked Pearl Harbor!

Yes, I know they don't put possessive apostrophes when naming places. They should, but in this case, my question was rhetorical, intended to elicit mirth.
