A team from the University of New South Wales in Sydney has figured out that an ancient Babylonian tablet indicates Pythagorus and Hipparchus were mathematical Johnnies-Come-Lately.

Not too surprising. The Chinese also beat out many Western culture mathematicians and scientists. In fact, some authors believe that if the Chinese had invented glass that we Westerners would be eating their dust (even more than we may already be doing).


On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Not too surprising at all, as it took the western minds 100 years to figure out what the ancient Babylonian had deduced with a piece of clay and a sharp stick.
