It turns out that coyotes and badgers team up to go hunting (for rodents). Badgers are relatively slow moving and so are ill-equipped to chase down rodents which coyotes can do
con brio. But if said rodents manage to dive below ground to hide in their dens, it is the badger that can dig them out with panache.
Research has determined that coyote-badger hunting pairs can acquire one-third more prey than coyotes or badgers hunting with conspecifics and will choose such pairings when given the option.
