I would like to extract some of the audio clips from portal2 to use as ical alert sounds. Anyone know offhand how to get them out of the portal 1 or 2 apps? I have found some information on the file format but none of it is complete. I've been able to break up sound files from other sources like marathon and descent as long as I have complete specs.

you did an "Open Package contents"? what file format are the sound files?

If the direct approach fails, you could always try the various 'back doors':

- Portal 2 sounds sources

I'd have preferred to open the vpk files myself, that's how I've done this in the past, but this "gscape" appears to be the only app that will do it and there's no up to date file specs on the latter vpk file structure.

A bit after the fact, but could you have used something like AudioHijack Pro/Fission to extract and edit what you wanted?

oh I browsed the entire library which was probably somewhere around 5,000 clips, ranging from 1/4 second to ten minutes in length. Found what i wanted and then some, thanks.
