in spotlight (finder or mail) searches? or safari page content searches? is it possible?

You're dreaming (but i couldn't agree more). Forget about BRE (and/or ERE), we can't even use simple wildcards like '*' or '?'

Edit: this is Apple's page about Spotlight's "Query Expression Syntax"

[guess they figure geeks prefer the CLI over the GUI anyway, but i side with you on this one.]
