I have a voucher from a five-star hotel which includes the following words: This offer is non transferable and non refundable and at the desecration of the management. How would they desecrate this voucher, I wonder? Spit on it? Tear it up, haughtily? Sling it violently across the restaurant?

Just like a spam-scam, I'd be concerned about providing the "five-star hotel" with any access to credit card or similar info. And Fawlty Towers would likely be a "ten-star facility" by comparison.

Good picture, Gregg It is a 5-star, Grelber. Name of Radisson Edwardian http://www.radissonedwardian.com/ I've booked a room and the voucher is the confirmation receipt. Back to the desecration (disrespectful or contemptuous treatment of that which is held to be sacred by a group or individual), maybe they'll set fire to it and dance upon the ashes? Will there be voucher-desecration ceremonies in the marble foyer? Can't wait!

Good picture, Gregg :)I've booked a room and the voucher is the confirmation receipt. Maybe this is a good time to toss in a travel hint. Most big hotels now use the plastic black-stripe door keys. Because they already have your credit card authorized, as a convenience you can check out by completing a form that you leave in a drop box. They also ask you to drop the plastic door key in with it. Bad idea. The door-key doesn't just contain the information needed to open the door. It also has all of the other information, including credit card, that you provided when checking in. Yes, it will get erased on reuse but you don't know when that might be or what might happen to the card meanwhile. When I was travelling regularly I got in the habit of tossing the plastic key into my briefcase and destroying it when I got home (the card, not my briefcase). ryck

Just goes to show you that you can't believe everything you read on the Internet. At least, that's what Snopes says.

According to Snopes, it's an urban myth Interesting. I had been destroying the cards for a few years, based on an article I read in a national business newspaper. It's been a while and I may even have started around the time of the earlier dates in your links - pre clarification. Once home I always cut the cards and put them in the recycling bin so, if nothing else, I'm sure the shareholders of Teraco were happy I helped affect their share prices positively. ryck

Since it is legit, you might suggest that management have someone proofread (not merely spellcheck) all their printed materials. Such mistakes reflect badly on the organization and its profferings. In olden days, when airplanes had ashtrays embedded in the seat arms, finding dirty ashtrays made one wonder whether engine maintenance was equally shoddy.

The ashtrays are still there, but they're all welded shut.
Imagine the logistics of all the airlines in the world having to weld-shut every single ashtray on every single seat on every single plane in all their fleets.
Awesome.
Someone will jump up and vehemently disagree with me about this, but nevertheless: since they stopped people smoking on airplanes, the air quality has gotten worse. This is because in the old days with smoking allowed, they used to pump fresh air into the cabin area at regular intervals (FACT). Now, no smoking, no need to do that. They just recycle the air instead, together with all the coughs, sneezes, bugs, viruses, and germs.
