UBB.threads' default behavior is to place two spaces before and after a URL, so if, as I think is natural, I leave a space after the word before a URL I wind up with three preceding and two following spaces, and I've got to waste time deleting the extras.
Is there any way to change that behavior in prefs, or is it a bug that I've just got to wait out?
Thanks.

I take it you're encountering the added spaces when using the shortcut button to make a link.
I'm pretty sure the extras will get stripped out automatically when you submit the post.

Thanks, cyn, that's correct; the spaces do get stripped out, which, thinking about it, is logical, because only an option-space will get passed on following a space.
Shoulda thunk to try.

Nope, they don't all get stripped out. In this instance , the trailing space remains. Edit: The software apparently expects you to always want to follow a URL with a space, but that's not necessarily a great assumption.

I understand why it does that--it's surprisingly hard to write automated URL handlers in PHP, because they tend to think that punctuation is part of the URL. With most email programs, for instance, if you put a URL at the end of a sentence, the period at the end of the sentence gets incorporated into the link and it doesn't work.
Forcing a space after a URL is one way to handle that, and a lot of PHP scripts for handling URLs do that. But as you observed, it's not really a good way.
