The MFIF database is an invaluable resource, particularly to the FTM community, because we, of all people, know what is in it.

It is, therefore, in our best interests for it to remain accessible for as long as possible.

Towards that end, I *strongly* urge (or, as may be more politically correct, think it would be wise of) all members to be prudent when linking to it, and, as a matter of fact, to *not* link to it if at all possible.

If CNET sees us using it as our "backbone" it is likely to be shut down sooner rather than later.

I, myself, intend to avoid linking by using language such as "This has worked for others..." as often as is possible.

I disagree. I think that CNET already has a time frame in mind, at least in a general sense, and that they're much more likely to close down the old site sooner if it isn't receiving hits than if it is.

CNET runs a huge, huge empire of web content. I'm pretty sure their decisions are made for the most impersonal of bottom-line reasons, not out of spite. To me, anyway, the fact that we were able to post at length in numerous threads at MFIF about how onerous CNET and CNET's forums were and how we were all heading over here instead, without provoking any censorship in response, is a pretty good indication that we're flying under their radar.

Yep. I made a couple of posts to that effect back at our former home.

Agreed. CNET will gladly take any traffic and resulting ad revenue we direct their way. Maybe one day with enough traffic the admins will have to decide how to split the buyout $. wink
