It should be pointed out, though, that System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard provides a Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys checkbox, whereby one may reverse what's the default and what's invoked via the fn key. To nitpick slightly, 10.6 has separate preference panes for Keyboard and Mouse. There is no Keyboard & Mouse prefpane.
