As a new user, I'm not sure this is the right forum for my query, but here goes......

I have a large Excel file which has two rows of headings. Top row (Line 1) for basic info, "Sales" or "Purchases" etc., and the 2nd row (Line 2) for detailed breakdown by Customer or Supplier, Inv.No., Article Description, etc, etc.

I freeze the top two lines and that's fine on the computer screen. If I scroll down to line 500, I've still got lines 1 & 2 showing.

But when I print, despite carefully setting the print area,to say, line 245 to 287, I can only get line 1 to print at the top of the doc instead of lines 1 & 2. Can't discover how to correct this annoying little glitch.

that sounds like an interesting bug... have you tried freezing the top THREE lines to see if it prints properly?

does the print preview freeze the same as the spreadsheet or as the printout?

Also what version of Office are you using, and what's the exact version number of excel? Maybe you need to install an update?

Welcome to these forums, bellbram! Off the top of my head I cannot offer an immediate solution to your problem nor can I reproduce it*, but I have some questions that will delineate it better and may help to produce a fix or a workaround:

- 1. Which version of Mac OS and Excel/MS Office are you running, and on which Mac model?
- 2. Did you 'freeze' the top 2 lines and set the print area in the Sheet tab of the Page Setup (File menu) dialog? If not, how did you do it?
- 3. As a (temporary) workaround, did you try to physically copy the individual pages including the two fixed top lines and print those?

*) Working with Excel 11.5.5 (090512) from Office 2004 I could not reproduce your problem. Briefly, I set up a double top line in columns A-E, then filled column A (starting at A4) with a simple number series (1 > 152) spanning 4 pages down to A155. As suggested in question 2 above I set the top two rows to repeat across the various pages ($1:$2), set the printing area to cover A1-E155 and printed to PDF. The pages looked as both you and I intended. This opens the possibility that your approach was different from mine and by itself explains the results you got.

Try this:
1. Open Excel
2. Go to File>Page Setup
3. Select the Widow
4. Where it says: “Rows to repeat at top”, enter $1:$2

That should do it.

And oh yes, a hearty welcome to FTM.

Many thanks Mr Pendragon. Yes! It worked, and I didn't even have to find a widow!
