Brilliant!

Now if they can only develop a similar tool for text.

Any tool can be abused, and AI is no different. But there is simple work around. Release all text as a graphic image. There are obvious downsides, but human's have often been willing to kill any goose even if it has the potential for laying golden eggs.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

The artists are not necessarily opposed to AI. They just want their works to be licensed by the AI creator as opposed to being used for free to train the AI software. Same with text materials. In fact, some authors are suing AI creators.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

...which makes absolute sense. They want the same kind of treatment that songwriters enjoy. Every time a song is played on air, the writer gets a royalty.

Couldn't your text as graphic image scheme be overcome by OCR built into AI?

And by the same token, humans will readily indulge in the radioactive isotope of gold that precedes the real thing.

It's more analogous to what the screenwriters were striking for.
