TechTool Pro 6 and Lion?

TechTool Pro 6 is now available. I don't mind the upgrade fee but will it be compatible with Lion (OS 10.7) without having to pay another upgrade fee? I hesitate to buy it because I don't want to pay, yet again, in a few months when Lion is released. MMT3: Can you answer this?

Jon,
We cannot know for certain what compatibility with Mac OS X Lion will require until Apple releases it. We get the developer builds, but as you may recall, Apple made a change to the filesystem in Tiger (Extended Atributes) that was not in the developer builds. I wish I could tell you more now, but strictly speaking, it is just not possible.

FYI, TTP6 is included in one of the current discount bundles, for a price that compares well with the $39.95 TTP5 > TTP6 upgrade.

I did some cleaning up of this thread, pulling some posts and editing others to remove the off-topic comments. Those of you interested in discussing tea, please keep in mind that that sort of conversation belongs in the Lounge, not in a Mac troubleshooting/help thread. I also detached Artie's question and the follow-up replies and that branch is now a separate thread here in the Mac OS X Applications forum: TechTool Deluxe to TechTool Pro?

FYI, TTP6 is included in one of the current discount bundles, for a price that compares well with the $39.95 TTP5 > TTP6 upgrade. An interesting note... A MacUpdate bundle listed on the same page includes TTP 5.0.7, which, when questioned, elicited this response: By azsooner Wed Mar 16 10:52:14 PDT 2011 Reply to this comment This is the response that I got this morning in regards to Techtool Pro.

Yes -- we're including version 5, not version 6. The differences between 5 and 6 are not very significant, and both boot the same Macs (we're included the latest bootable DVD).
If you look at what that other bundle has outside of TechTool Pro, and you look at what we're offering, I think you'll find ours is a substantially better value.

Best, Misha My first reaction was that Misha was quite correct, but after giving the matter some thought I realized that if Lion necessitates a TTP update it will, pretty much guaranteed, be an update to v 6, and purchasers of the MU bundle will have to pay for an upgrade if they want to run their v 5.0.7 on a Lion-ized Mac. Caveat emptor!Addendum: A second response from MU... By azsooner Wed Mar 16 11:06:38 PDT 2011 Reply to this comment Here's my second response. --------------- Version 5 is in the MacUpdate bundle. Micromat wouldn't let us go public with v6 in a bundle. -j -MacUpdate Support http://www.mupromo.com/faq.phpStrange that one bundle can include only v 5 and another can include v 6, no? (Or does Micromat's cut have something to do with it?) Alert: I just noticed that the bundle that includes TTP 6 has been extended... runs for another 3 weeks!

I'm not at all familiar with TechTool Pro, so please excuse this question if its answer is as obvious as I suspect it is... Can a bootable disc be created from a d/l'ed version? Edit: I just found this on Micromat's website: Please note that full DVD disk images of our products are not available for download. Once you register your software, you may purchase the latest DVD through our website or by calling our sales department at 707-566-3831. I presume it's my answer? So, if I'm understanding Micromat's policy, the d/l and disc cost the same, but a d/l purchase both provides instantaneous gratification and requires a $10 payment to acquire a disc, while a disc purchase gets you the disc at -0- cost but you have to wait for it to come in the mail?

Artie,
If your interpretation is not correct, then we both have it wrong.

Artie,
If your interpretation is not correct, then we both have it wrong. Thanks for confirming. That means that if one purchases TTP as part of a bundle it will cost an additional $10 to acquire a bootable disc (assuming that the bundled d/l carries the same rights as a d/l purchased directly from Micromat).

Artie,
If your interpretation is not correct, then we both have it wrong. I just realized how dumb my question was! Same as Alsoft, Micromat may not, pursuant to Apple's totally reasonable rules, d/l a bootable disc version... Duuuh!
