With appointments I always put in reminders for one day before and 2 hours before the event. And, that is what I did for an appointment booked for today.

This morning Calendar sent the "one day ahead" reminder for an event booked for today. Thoughts?

Edit, additonal info - Calendar correctly displays today's date.

Check your time zone selection in the event. On occasion mine has surreptitiously changed.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Calendar has got about as good an idea of what day it is as I do.

Leap year? wink

Is this a repeating event? If not, maybe you entered the wrong date by mistake. Just one entry has done this, correct?

Done. Everything is okay there, although I did toggle things on and off, just in case....and did a restart after.

Curious anomaly, it suggests the closest city in my time zone is Cupertino, which is farther than cities like Seattle, Portland.

Not a repeating event, correct data was entered, so far just the one entry. I have entered a 'test' event for Sunday, and used the identical alerts (Day before, 2 Hours before), so we'll see if Calendar has come around.

In situations such as yours, Jon always reminds me that I've forgotten about trashing plists.

I went to iMac>Library>Preferences but there wasn't anything that indicated "Calendar" but there was a Time Zone preference from 2011. I deleted it and did a restart.

A new visit to the Preferences folder didn't show any pref for Time Zone.

Could the iCal pref be the one you're looking for?

I have five plists that might be relevant to your situation:

com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
com.apple.iCal.plist
com.apple.iCalExternalSync.plist

The path to these plists is not in iMac/Library/Preferences but in Users/youraccount/LIbrary/Preferences. If you have not made this folder visible, in Finder's Go menu, choose Go To Folder and search for ~/Library/Preferences (The first character is tilde, found just below the esc key.)

The Time Zone setting is not contained in any application preference file. It is a SYSTEM Setting used by numerous Apple and third party applications. The default is to set the Time Zone dynamically depending on the physical location of the device and is found in the System settings > General > Date & Time panel. Check your settings there.

Thank you for the clues. In MyAccount/Library/Preferences there was only one of the above plists - com.apple.iCal.plist – and I deleted it. I also did a FindAnyFile search for com.apple.ical and it came up with huge list of items, several of which were various com.apple.ical plists, and a pile of apple.com.ical aliases. I deleted all of them and did a restart.

When I reopened my account I had a Calendar window of the type you get when software is initially installed.

I went there and everything is correct, right time zone, et cetera.

I did not get the alerts on my iMac but they did appear on my iPad, which has never happened before. I have entered a new event for Tuesday, with the same alert criteria, so we’’ see what happens.

That made me think. There are multiple conditions that control whether or not a Calendar alarm will be raised on a given device.
  1. the device status at the time of the notification (on, off, asleep)
  2. The notification settings
  3. The specific notification settings for Calendar
  4. The current Focus settings

There are a lot of different combinations and results. My suggestion would be to set each device System Settings > :
  • Allow notifications when the display is sleeping ON
  • Allow notifications when the screen is locked ON
  • Allow Notifications when mirroring or sharing the display ON
  • Calendar: notifications ON
  • Calendar: notifications ALERTS
  • Calendar: Allow Time Sensitive Notifications ON
  • Calendar: show notifications on lock screen ON
  • IN EACH FOCUS: allowed apps > Allow Some Apps ON
  • IN EACH FOCUS: allowed apps - add Calendar
  • IN EACH FOCUS: allowed apps - Time Sensitive Notifications ON

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

I've followed all of the foregoing advice provided (thanks, everyone) and this morning at 09:00 Calendar sent a reminder for the test event, set for 09:00 tomorrow. And, the reminder appeared on both my iMac and my iPad.
