OS 13.6.3
I usually delete history every day but I have about 30 items ( 4 days old ) that I forgot to delete and now they will not go away. I went to safari>settings>general and I have the "remove history items" ticked after (1) day.
When I go under History and scroll down to clear history, the history from (4) days ago shows as the date of that old history. I cannot find a way of deleting it. Anyone know how to remove it?

A restart did the trick

Just curious, why do you delete History every day?
I used to Shut Down every day, so I wouldn't have seen lingering history. I don't do that every day any more, but still do it often. (I suppose)

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try:
Go to the History menu and click Show All History. You may be able to delete those items from the complete list.

Isn't the last item in your Safari menu (not Settings) "History" with the the option "Clear History…"? It is with Safari version 17.3. Try doing it that way.

That's a tricky one, because that option also clears the cache and cookies associated with the deleted history items. But if you hit ⌥ with that dropdown open, "Clear History" changes to "Clear History and Keep Website Data," which is likely a preferable option for many/most/all folks.

Gregg, Because that's what i do.
Jon, That didn't work.
Ira, I have Safari 17.3 and your suggestion didn't work either.
artie, Read above response.
I exhausted all the above suggestions, hence the restart.

artie, Read above response. You obviously had some sort of glitch than needed to be overcome by a restart. Out of curiosity, when Safari auto-deletes your history, does it clear cache and cookies too? If it does, you may want to think about changing to manual deletion using the method I described.

I guess I could delete history under Safari to save cache & cookies.

I guess I could delete history under Safari to save cache & cookies. I clear cache at the end of every day with ⌘ ⌥ E, and I guess it costs me something, albeit nothing important that I've ever noticed. But clearing cookies costs me saved login and other useful info which is a PIA to re-enter each time I visit a frequently visited website.
