Your This is my solution to typing in the password every time link goes to the same Apple support document as your system Integrity protection link, so it's not surprising that Rita doesn't see a solution.

Look closer. I switched to a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID so all I have to do is touch the right key and voilá my password is entered automatically. [/quote] I went back to the link and found I had to click on more links to see that. So, now I see that. Thanks.

OK, before we go any further, it just occurred to me that if Get Info on your home folder shows you the equivalent of this, you shouldn't be able to write to any file in it, not just trash, but you haven't reported any other problems.

I just wanted to be able to trash stuff without using my password. No other problems other than camera which I give up on. Supposedly having admin permission to read/write other than just read gives me that option.OK, before we go any further, it just occurred to me that if Get Info on your home folder shows you the equivalent of this, you shouldn't be able to write to any file in it, not just trash, but you haven't reported any other problems.

You didn't give me your home folder. There should be a folder with your name on it under "Users." I need to see that one.

OK found it. I forgot how to blur our my name before I send the screenshot. It does say read & write though. Surprised me. Open the screenshot in Preview, select your name, and hit "delete." (Your selecting your name should surround it with blue dots.) Once I see that screenshot I can maybe figure out what your problem is, because at this point, I'm not sure I've got the slightest idea.

I didn't realize Terminal commands changed as time goes on. I guess it makes sense since lots of other stuff changes in Macs.Does this look safe to do? PermissionsYou didn't give me your home folder. OK. I know I've been warned about using terminal willy nilly, so I move cautiously when I see a terminal command online. Back in the real world after having whittled a saga down to a sentence. OK found [my home folder]. .... It does say read & write though. Surprised me. After reading that, I went back to your original post and realized that it was misinterpreted...that we've been on a wild goose chase. Those with looong memories may remember that your problem is one that was reported with some regularity in the early days of OS X, and that its solution is, if my memory serves me, Method 1 in this doc (to which you've previously linked). (Method 2, which is incorrect, is the one that didn't work in your original post.) Method 1 [Navigate to /Apps/Utilities/Terminal] Type the following command replacing “your_user_name” with your user name [as it appears in Finder...case sensitive/no underscores]. sudo chown your_user_name ~/.Trash You will need to enter your password and press Enter. It won’t show any characters when you type. If you do not have a password then set one first. If you are presented with the following error: “No such file or folder” then do the following: Type the following command: Unless I'm mistaken, your problem is not permissions related, rather it's that you've lost ownership of your trash folder, and running that command should fix it.

Thanks, Artie. Busy today, but will try later. By user name in Finder, I see the home folder in the Finder sidebar with my first and last name without a space, lower case. If it does something I don't like, can I reverse it in Terminal? Being careful like Joe says. I'm not authoritative about Terminal, but I don't see how this command can do anything you don't like. The "chown" command simply changes the ownership of the targeted file, so it will either restore your lost ownership or just be a redundant affirmation of your existing ownership.
